Title: Fretting at 4:00 AM
Fandom: Scarecrow and Mrs. King
Author: Cat Moon
Rating: PG
Words: 350
Characters/Pairing: Lee/Amanda
Summary: See title.
Notes: Future fic
Amanda's eyes opened abruptly. She tried closing them again, but they stubbornly refused to stay shut. She suppressed a sigh and valiantly fought the urge to look at the alarm clock, knowing what it would say.
She punched the pillow and lay there for another minute before bowing to the inevitable and looking at the accusingly glowing numbers—3:55 AM.
Again.
"Want a cup of tea?" her husband asked solicitously.
"Oh, Lee, I woke you again, didn't I? I'm so sorry. I can go into the den; you need your rest."
"You'll do no such thing," he said, drawing her closer to rest her head on his chest. "You just need to stop thinking so much."
Amanda let his warmth and love seep into her as a balm to her nerves. "I know, but I just wake up remembering that the invitations aren't sent yet, and Kayleigh hasn't picked out her dress…."
"It's going to be fine."
She continued listing her worries, despite Lee's reassurance. "And then I wonder if she's making the right choice. I don't want her to have to go through a divorce like I did. I want her to have one wedding, to the right man. It took me too long to find mine."
Lee placed a kiss on the top of her head at her words. "That's one thing we can't control," he told his wife. "All we can do is support her in her decisions and be there if she makes mistakes."
"When did you get so smart?"
"About the time I married you."
"Good answer," she told him.
"You know…" Lee began after a few minutes of silence, "I know something that will take your mind off all this fretting."
"Do tell," Amanda said in an intrigued voice, propping herself up with an elbow on his sternum.
"Actually, this involves more showing than telling." He leaned closer, moving in to capture her lips with his.
Lee proved very adept at taking Amanda's mind off her troubles. And hopefully, this bout of 4:00 AM uhtceare would be put to rest after their daughter's wedding.
