Summary: Takashi, Nyanko-sensei, Tooru and Kaname have lunch at the park.
“Hurry up, I don’t have the patience to wait for you!” Madara trotted ahead, looking back every once in a while, eager to get to their destination.
“Your food isn’t going anywhere, sensei.” Takashi laughed, but still sped up his pace.
They were headed to meet with Tooru and Kaname at a nearby park. Since it was the weekend, the three of them had agreed to meet for a meal, and Tooru had promised to make Madara some sweets in order to lure her favourite fat cat along. Madara had attempted accismus at first, pretending to refuse by saying he was busy that day, but was soon thoroughly won over by the allure of delicious food.
When the two finally arrived, they found Tooru laying out some dishes on the park bench as Kaname helped.
“You’re here!” Tooru greeted Takashi, “Just in time, the food’s still warm!”
She barely had time to finish her sentence before Madara had launched himself forward and buried his face in the first plate he found.
“Fluffy!!” Tooru’s attention was immediately diverted from the task at hand, and she followed behind Madara as he tried to stuff his face while avoiding her.
“Here, these are the last ones,” Kaname handed Takashi a few colourful containers and gestured for help to finish setting up.
“It’s such a nice day, isn’t it?” Takashi made small talk.
“Hmm,” Kaname nodded, “We can go for a walk later.”
Once they finished setting up, the all finally dug in.
They ate and chatted, praising the food, joking about their weeks, and generally feeling quite cheery, until Madara— who had at this point barely spoken up between mouthfuls of food —looked up from his plate, ears twitching attentively.
“Rain is coming,” He warned.
“Rain? Oh no!” Tooru stood up in a hurry, “Help me pick everything up! Let’s find some shelter.”
They worked quickly to pack and move under the dense shade of a tree, finishing up just as the first drops of rain began to fall from the sky.
“Thanks for the warning, sensei.” Takashi patted the cat’s head with a smile.
Madara snorted, “I just didn’t want this delicious lunch to go to waste.”
The kids laughed in response.
“I guess we're going to have to postpone our walk for some other time,” Tanuma spoke up after a moment.
“We can wait the rain out,” Takashi suggested.
The rain fell gently upon the earth past the still-bright sky, and the soft pitter patter of water drops upon the surrounding greenery created a thin blanket of sound that seemed to lull the very earth into a momentary rest.
“Sounds good!” Tooru agreed, “Do we want to get some doughnuts afterwards?”
“Doughnuts!” Madara jumped up, “We don’t have to wait for the rain to stop to get doughnuts, a majestic yokai like myself would never let something trivial like water get in his way!”
“Us humans don’t want to get wet, though.” Takashi countered.
“…Fine.” On second thought, he didn’t want to get wet either, so he compromised, “But I want a whole bag to myself.”
“Deal.” Takashi sat back against the tree and looked back out at the rain, spotting the beginnings of a rainbow stretching out across the sky.
