Title: (Not) Sleeping In
Fandom: Riptide
Author: Cat Moon
Rating: G
Words: 322
Characters: Cody, Nick, Murray (implied Nick/Cody, if you squint)
Summary: A rude awakening
Cody swam up through sleep slowly at first, enjoying the cabin's warmth, the smooth silk of the sheets against his skin. He heard Nick moving around the room but kept his eyes closed, unwilling to start the day yet.
His relaxation was short-lived. After a few moments, an unpleasant smell intruded on his senses.
"Take a shower, Nick," Cody mumbled, earning himself a slap on the ass as Nick left the room.
Unfortunately, the annoying assault worsened, making it impossible to drift back to sleep. Kicking off the covers, Cody dragged himself out of bed, immediately wishing he hadn't, as it only made the situation worse. Still half asleep, he stumbled through the Riptide, following the noisome odor. Then, when he stepped through the door onto the deck, he had to hold his nose as the foul smell rose to new heights.
A quick look around and the private eye had his suspect in sight.
"Murray!" Cody yelled, picking up a blue bucket and heading back inside. He found Boz sitting at the table in the galley, a cup of coffee in front of him.
Murray looked up at Cody's entrance. "Good morning, Cody!"
"Not really." Cody held the bucket up. "You left your catch out on the desk last night!"
"How do you know it's Murray's?" Nick queried, slinging a towel around his neck as he joined them. "We were all fishing yesterday."
Cody thrust the bucket at Nick, close enough so he could see the label on the front. "Because his name's on it."
Nick stepped back, trying to put more space between himself and the stinky pail. "Right."
"Will you get rid of these?!" Cody implored.
Murray jumped up and grabbed the bucket. "Oh, sure thing. Sorry guys!"
Cody raised an eyebrow at Nick. "You couldn't smell that?!" Ignoring Nick's shrug, he went off to find some air freshener.
Hopefully, this wasn't the start of one of those days.
