Summary: Mystique visits her children but is unseen as she is every year.

She watched them, from the bark and leaves all around her. She could feel some of the telepaths becoming suspicious and trying to trace her presence, and Logan continuously lifted up his dirty, little nose trying to sniff out her whereabouts. None of them, however, mentioned her presence to her children, though they were continuously glancing their way. The Cajun stayed annoying close to Rogue, constantly shuffling his deck of cards as though even he suspected something.

She watched for a long time before finally accepting that she was not going to be getting any closer to any of them this year. She could have bought them a present, but what did it matter? Had she not practically offered her daughter the world? Neither of them were wise enough to want it.

No, she remembered a much beloved voice saying many years ago, they don't want what you can buy them, Raven. Nor do I. They want you, and your lack of love and blindsided determination to win this war against the homo sapiens is going to be the very thing that drives them away! She blinked back tears from pupilless, yellow eyes. She'd tried to beg and plead with Irene not to prognosticate such a future for their family, but the old woman had been as stubborn as she. More stubborn, as she'd kept her beliefs right up to the grave.

Raven shifted, feeling a bird light on one of the branches above her head. She shook it and then rolled her eyes at the sight of the bat that departed. Of course, she could not even rate a bird this night when everybody else was celebrating with their families. She got a freaking bat instead! Flying rat, she thought as she turned away from the happy celebration inside of the X-Men's warm home. Pryde was giving her son a present that would mean more to Kurt than anything she could have ever given him while Remy had pulled Rogue underneath the mistletoe.

Her children were not even missing her, Raven thought, trying not to sniffle and give herself away to the trackers. The flying rat that had landed on her limbs was almost justifiable. Irene certainly had been. She had driven their children away, driven away their allies as well. Even the Toad and Blob did not want to see her this time of the year.

Sniffling, Raven moved away. She knew who would want to see her this evening, though -- well, perhaps even he really wouldn't want to see her, but it was better than being alone. Shifting into Wolverine, Mystique prowled away across Xavier's campus, heading for Creed who she knew wouldn't be too far away. Like herself, he never was on Christmas Eve too far from his boy. Their hearts might be unlikely to ever mend, but at least they could wallow in their miseries together. She was willing to bet he was already drunk with plenty of booze waiting too.

😢 I don't know the fandom, maybe she deserves it, but it's still sad.

Wow, that was fast! I had a feeling this word would be inspiring. I hope it is for me and I can come up with something good.
