I.

OVER THE YEARS THEY’VE SPENT as a couple, Megan has learned many things about her wife that wouldn’t be noticeable at first glance, such as that her wife shockingly always cried when Jack died in Titanic, or her surprising love for the FRUiTS magazines.

Most of all, Graham’s love for Pomeranians.

“Off you go, Spike,” the black-haired woman says as she takes the leash off his skull collar, finally done with their daily jog around the neighborhood. Just in time too, because Megan just got done knitting a beret for the canine.

Megan tries to call Spike over to her to come and wear the outfit, but Graham shakes her head.

“I’m gonna go play fetch in the backyard with him for a few moments, give him a bath, and then you can have him back.”

Megan pouts. "That's what you said yesterday, and you two ended up falling asleep outside."

Graham shrugs, grabbing a nearby frisbee before walking to the backyard door in their open kitchen.

"Guess we just lost track of time."

Megan sighs as her wife walks out with their dog but lets it be—at least Graham always washed Spike afterward and remembered to use raspberry shampoo.

II.

One of the problems of Graham majoring in photography and Megan double-majoring in women's studies and physical education is that a lot of the colleges they get accepted to end up not having the department one of them needs to enroll in, leading to them going to separate universities.

Luckily, they're only 35 minutes away from each other, and when they do get to meet up with each other on the weekends, it's usually Megan visiting Graham to pose for her projects whenever Graham's roommate is away.

"There you go," Graham says as she captures photos of a modeling Megan, "just need a few more and I'll be done."

Megan plays with the end of the red silk dress she's wearing that Graham bought for her last summer. Graham said it was adamant that Megan wear something she bought her recently, but she didn't explain why.

"So, you haven't told me what this project's theme is. 1950s? Vintage? Marilyn Monroe? No, you would've asked me to change my hair or wear makeup if it was that..."

Graham takes a few more pictures before getting a portfolio from her bed, pointing at the title.

Irreplaceable People & Things in My Life.

III.

When Megan was younger, she always spent Christmas with her parents quietly, getting gifts such as dolls or cooking ovens as a child, and headbands plus scarves as a teenager.

At 25, Megan's spending Christmas with Graham and a baby.

“Look at what your grandparents gave you, Melody," Megan cooed as she wiggled a large teddy bear in her hand in front of the other blonde. Graham took a photo of the scene as their daughter giggled.

Megan's relationship with her parents was rocky at first when she returned from the camp. They couldn't believe she was still gay and she couldn't believe they thought sending her to a conversion therapy camp was the best choice. With the help of a few GLAAD meetings and rewatches of In & Out, however, they eventually came to terms—far better in comparison to Graham's parents.

They would even be celebrating Christmas with Megan and Graham right now, but her dad is still recovering from breaking his back trying to advertise a Trevor Project sign on her parents' rooftop.

Grabbing the next gift with Melody's name on it, Megan cheerfully announces, “This present is from your godfathers Larry and Llyod!"

It's a learning walker.

IV.

When senior prom came around, one of the first things Megan did was call Graham, who was now living with her aunt since getting kicked out of her home. Megan wore a golden mermaid dress and Graham wore a beautiful opal tuxedo that Megan chose,

They danced for a bit, talked with Megan's teammates on the cheer squad who surprisingly managed to accept Megan being a lesbian pretty alright despite supporting her parents' decision to send her to True Direction, and kissed in front of everyone there.

Eventually, Bloomfield went to get some punch and thus went to the back of the gymnasium, leading to the moment now:

Her ex-boyfriend telling her that he misses her but understands she isn't attracted to men.

"One last make-out would be nice though," Jared suggests as if his prom date isn’t across the room watching.

Megan smiles and leans forward, but moves to the side when Jared does the same. "I wouldn't be a lesbian if I agreed to that, silly!"

Walking cheerfully past him, Megan asks Jared's date if she'd like to dance with her and Graham for a bit, to which the redhead says yes—turns out Jared's date is bisexual.

V.

Every Friday night, Bloomfield and Eaton eat at Trois Mec, where the former always orders vegetarian food and the latter frequently gets steak.

“You know, lately I've been thinking about something"—Megan fans herself to cool down from the Californian heat—“and I'd like your opinion on it, honey."

Graham cuts a portion of the meat in front of her. "Is this about that woman in Beverly Hills again? I told you, she may be hot—not as much as you of course—but no money is worth a job where you'll be treated like a slave rather than an athletic trainer."

"No, no, not that, I already turned her down. It's about someone else—about you, actually."

"Me?" Graham questions before eating a piece of steak, eyes directly at Megan.

"Yes, you, Graham," Megan replies, "or should I say Eaton. That last name...when we went to the doctor's awhile ago and the receptionist called you that, it made me realize something."

Graham raises an eyebrow. "Realize what?"

Megan gets up, takes a small box out of her jacket's pocket, and gets down on one knee in front of Graham.

“Graham Bloomfield would fit you more.”

Megan smiles as Graham's fork drops to the floor.
