She used to think His hand was everywhere. She used to sense it in every caress of a breeze, in every animal's happy cry, in every life. She used to see it in the designs swirled into the clouds and even in the grass beneath her feet. She saw it in a baby's laugh and in the contented smile gracing old faces as they finally eased on home. She used to see it everywhere.

But now, she sees it nowhere. She's older, and her body is preparing to make the last journey home. She doesn't see the happiness and rejuvenation she so often bore witness to when she was younger. She sees far more rain than she did before, yet never enough to thirst all the creatures that have come to call this old world home. Babies rarely make it, and adults suffer. There is far more pain than joy or love in this world, far more tragedy...

And as the winds whisper across the lonely savannah, she bows her gray head and cries, yearning oh so desperately to feel His once ubiquitous touch again. "Oh, Father, where are you? Why have you forsaken us?" Yet the answer never comes.
