Summary: They're a rowdy bunch, but there are some benefits of having them around.

Sometimes, she wondered how she was ever going to pull this off. This was far from her first time attempting to gather children underneath her proverbial wings, but it was certainly the first time she'd had such a crazed, trying melange of students. There were so many who thought they knew everything, the arrogant Monet who really did not need to be with them, although they could make use of her father's connections, the secretive Jono who clearly had something trying to catch up to him -- Angelo wasn't much better in the dark and dangerous area with secrets he refused to share, but at least he was nowhere near as arrogant --, and Jubilee, who thought the X-Men had taught her everything she would ever need to know and only tolerated her, Emma knew, because the Professor had chosen her.

At least she could easily pluck answers from most of their minds, but then there was the wild Penance, on whom she still could not get a clear read. Something was hunting that child, as well. All their secrets would catch them eventually, Emma knew -- they always did --, but perhaps then they would finally realize that they did need her help. She was the only willing, after all, to do exactly what must be done with most humans to protect their people, at least the only one tried to help this ragtag bunch of juveniles, mostly with records already.

"Miss Frost -- " Paige started, looking up from the textbook and papers spread in her lap. She was the only one with whom Emma could sit in quiet peace with for hours underneath the apple tree. She knew the girl did not like her, but she was at least respectful of her. Of course, it didn't help that she had her big brother's bigger mouth in her ear. "They're at it again."

"I am aware, Paige," Emma admitted, tapping a finger to her chin. Even Everett had managed to become caught up in this latest gallimaufry of limbs and profanity. She spoke the words with a certain sense of dejected acceptance for it truly did feel, far too often, that there was never going to be any peace amongst these children.

But at least there could be peace in the air, she thought with a smirk as her co-headmaster appeared, striding purposefully across the campus. She watched as his sonic scream tore the children away from each other while actually not harming them. Then she smiled, quite pleased, at their confused looks. It was good to keep Sean around for something beyond eye candy and Xavier's loyalty after all. Now if only she could find a way to harness that mouth --

She blinked, startled, as Sean turned and strode her. Wordlessly, he offered her one of two glasses of wine he possessed and walked away again.

She'd completely forgotten about Paige as she watched him walk away with that same, powerful stride. "You like him, don't you?"

"Mind your books, girl." She smiled.
