Title: Restoring the Spring
Fandom: Dawson's Creek
Author: Apache Firecat
Rating: PG-13/T
Word Count: 500
Characters/Pairings: Pacey/Andie, Jack/Doug, also references Pacey/Joey, Dawson/Joey, and Andie/that guy
Warnings: Slight AU
Summary: Friends help each other and their loved ones.
"CARPE DIEM!" Andie shouted above the breeze. She kept her back turned purposefully toward the pier as Jack and Doug continued to help Dawson with the rigging for his new sailboat. She knew it was low, to be skipping about so scantily clad doing something that she knew none of them really had an interest in, but the four of them had come to an understanding.
Far more thrilling and reassuring was the fact that she actually had friends. Her brother loved her and wanted to see her happy. Dougie seemed to truly love him and wanted to see him happy and thereby, by extension, her happy. And Dawson... Well, Dawson was a sweetheart, but he'd had his heart trod on as well, and this whole experience was not truly about seizing the day to do anything more joyful than gaining some sort of revenge.
Dougie's first suggestion had been that she get with Dawson and the two of them flaunt their happiness and sexual escapades in such a way that Pacey and Joey would have turned green with envy, but neither she nor Dawson was that kind of a person. It hurt, even now, when she thought about how Pacey must be feeling, but he had hurt her so much more. She had tried to be good.
She hadn't asked for him to make her fall in love with him. She barely remembered those nights at the hospital, still couldn't really recall the guy's name unless she concentrated really hard, and she had had it confirmed that there had been something in the medication they had both been given that had messed with their minds and sex drives. That guy had meant nothing to her. Pacey was her whole world.
And her world didn't want her. It was a crushing thought, but Andie was determined to see this through. Both Jack and Doug seemed to think she could somehow win Pacey's love back, once he realized what he had lost, and honestly, who knew Pacey better than his own brother? A brother, she remembered with some glee restoring a spring in her step as she moved over to Dawson, who even said she was the better fit for his baby brother.
It wasn't that he thought poorly of Joey, but he had never seen Pacey as happy as he had been with her. Wasn't that what they all wanted in the long run -- for their loved ones to be happy with the ones who were meant for them? She was meant for Pacey and he for her; she just had to make the blowhard see it.
She grabbed the rope and pretended to be helping Dawson with it, though she had no idea what she was doing. "Is it working?" she called down to Doug.
She could hear his grin in his voice as he answered, "Oh, yeah, McPhee! He's red as heck! Keep it up!"
"Thank you," Jack mouthed to his boyfriend for helping his sister. They beamed.
