Title: Blending the Disparate
Fandom: Scarecrow and Mrs. King
Author: Cat Moon
Rating: G
Words: 300
Characters: Amanda
Summary: The musings of a mother who is also a spy
Amanda took a sip from her cup of tea, set it on the table and began folding the laundry. Some women found the job a chore, but she enjoyed the time to herself. Being a mom and a spy didn't leave much opportunity to be alone with her thoughts, to review and take stock of her life.
Today her mind was on her youngest son, Jamie. After a rocky start, he'd really taken to his new stepdad. He was emulating Lee now in how he dressed and some of his mannerisms, wanting to tag along even on boring errands. He looked for Lee's approval more than Amanda's these days. It warmed her to see her new family dynamics working out so well, but it also caused some worry.
There was always the possibility that their secret work would become known someday. If Jamie discovered Lee was Scarecrow, a covert government agent, would he also want to imitate that? The lure of an exciting life of international espionage would probably be a big draw if Jamie's love of James Bond movies were any indication. And Amanda had to admit that she herself wouldn't want to return to her old, boring life after the last few years. Even with the danger they faced every day.
Amanda and Lee had played out an echo of the exact way his own parents had met. Would the tradition continue to be passed down through generations? Would Jamie, or Phillip, end up following in their footsteps?
On the one hand, she was proud of their work protecting their country; on the other, she was a mother who wanted her boys safe. It was something she'd have to live with while blending their disparate worlds.
Amanda accepted all of that and wouldn't change anything for the world.
