On entering the apartment, Rachel was shocked to find it a shambles. Monica sat slumped at the kitchen table, her arms burying her head.
Hesitantly, Rachel stepped forward, shaking her shoulder. “Mon? Monica!”
Gasping, Monica sat up, staring, her eyes wide. “Oh. You scared me,” she breathed.
Rachel pressed a hand over her own racing heart. “I scared you?! What happened in here,” she demanded, motioning to the mess all around.
“Ross had me babysitting Ben for him. And he’s at that age. You know: When a little kid’s élan starts to assert itself. He ran me ragged,” Monica groaned.
