Summary: Lionel and Jean, after all this time.
He wondered how she knew.
“Are you still not in the chaos and cacophony?”
A simple question, one that could be considered nonsense coming from anyone else, but not from her.
Instead, Lionel wondered how she knew.
How did she know that, after watching her burn, not even Praxis over Manchester would satisfy him? It wasn’t greed that left him discontent—on the contrary, he never really wanted to be Prince. He tried to do his best with the title, as he felt compelled to by his lineage, but in the end it was as she described: chaos and cacophony.
Was that why it had been so easy to leave it all behind to chase a couple of Salubri back to where it all started? To hand over the throne to the Regent and pin his hopes on nothing but ghosts? It was unbecoming of him, and he was sure his Elders would admonish him for it… but there was no one above him anymore. For the first time, when he looked around, all was silent.
Well, not entirely so.
Jean was there, after all. An oasis in the desert—or perhaps a mirage. But, just like her, he chose to believe.
He chose her.
