Summary: Princess Zelda has been hard at work researching Sheikah technology, but she needs a little help.
Princess Zelda plopped down on the table with a sigh, and the ever-stoic guard by her side watched her with inquisitive eyes.
“I don’t suppose you could help me with this little conundrum, could you?” She asked him half-heartedly.
Link shrugged, but still took a seat next to her on the table to see what she was doing.
“It’s the Sheikah Slate, we’ve been able to restore only a fraction of it’s functionality thus far, but I think I’m close to making a new discovery—it’s just…” At this, she gave another sigh, “It’s like I’ve hit an impenetrable wall, and can’t cross it no matter what I do.”
“And Purah?” Link asked.
Zelda leafed through her notes again as she answered, sorting everything out for the millionth time that day, “I’m afraid we’re both equally out of our depths when it comes to certain aspects of ancient technology, and without better records to go off from… well, guesswork can only take you so far.” She wasn’t really expecting Link to help her, she mostly just used him as a sounding board for her ideas. Not that she didn’t think he was smart enough—he was a brilliant knight, after all—but if she couldn’t figure out the problem, the chances of anyone else being able to were pretty slim.
Link cast a serious glance over the pile of documents in the table in front of him, taking in the dozens of notes and diagrams and half-finished calculations. He seemed to be deeply in thought for a while, and Zelda watched in mild amusement as a slight frown formed on his face as he picked up sheets of paper, looked at them, and placed them back down.
Suddenly, he smacked the papers down on the table and sprung to his feet.
“What is it?” Zelda gasped in surprise, “Did you think of something?”
Link simply smiled and stretched out his hand towards her, “Come.”
“Where?” She asked as she took his hand and followed him out the room.
The two walked briskly through the corridors, took the stairs down, and exited the castle. Link took a detour through the knight’s quarters to grab a few things, but refused to elaborate when Zelda pressed him for answers.
They walked through the lush grass for a while before coming to a stop at a picturesque grove. Link put his bag down and started rummaging through it.
“Seriously, what are we doing here? Couldn’t this have been done inside?” Zelda asked a little helplessly.
“We’re taking a break.” Link answered as he pulled out a picnic blanket from his bag and spread it out on the grass.
“But my research—”
“Later,” He pulled out a bundle of food and began arranging it semi-neatly over the blanket, “You’ve been indoors too long.”
Zelda tried to refute him, but even she had to admit that the idea of a picnic in this beautifully clear weather was starting to sound more appealing by the second.
“Fine.” She sat down on one end of the blanket, “But only a short break, I need to get back to my work.”
Link smiled knowingly and sat down on the other end, handing the princess a fresh apple.
