Title: Put a Sock in it
Fandom: Quantum Leap
Author: Cat Moon
Rating: G
Characters: Sam, Al, OC
Words: 275
Summary: Sometimes Sam has unfinished business before he can leap out. It's always satisfying.
Notes: I think everyone had known someone like Richard. I know I have.
Sam was more than ready to be finished with the current leap. He'd done what he was there to do, saved the day, and now was just waiting to see what the final trigger would be.
He'd spent nearly a week stuck in a tent in the wilderness with his host's brother, a garrulous lad named Richard, who hadn't stopped talking the entire time. At least, that's what it felt like.
Sam had accomplished his goal of saving them from a bear attack, albeit with Al's help. Al had scared the animal off, confusing it when it tried to attack and kept lumbering through his holographic image.
"Oh my god, I can't believe we were almost eaten by a bear! Did you see the size of that thing?!" Richard asked, but it must have been rhetorical, like all his questions.
Sam opened his mouth but didn't get a chance to speak.
"I almost peed my pants, what about you? Did you see the weird way it was behaving? Like, trying to attack something that wasn't there. I wonder if it had rabies? Do bears get rabies?"
"Yes, but rarely—"
"Jeez, we could have been mauled AND gotten rabies. I hear those shots are painful!"
Sam gave up trying to get a word in edgeways and continued packing up their camp in preparation for the hike out. He shared a rueful look with Al, then gazed contemplatively at the athletic sock in his hand. He glanced at his observer again.
Al nodded. "Go ahead, Sam. You know you want to."
Sam strode over to the still-rambling Richard, stuffing the sock into his open mouth.
And leaped.
