Summary: Part 3 (of 5) A change of fate after romance and then break-up.
Click of letterbox sounds like a trigger.
Breakdown interrupted. Something bigger
Grips her. Mail! Solicitor’s envelope.
Origins unknown. Better than false hope:
Post-marked distraction. Breaking down must wait.
Falling apart, too, tears, Haversham fate:
…let’s see what the letter says…
Reading between lines, dripping on the floor,
A stranger has died somewhere, something more,
There’s something in it for her: inheritance
It’s a scam, probably, but there’s a chance
It’s not, so she composes her reply
While getting dressed, cleaning up, saying bye
to what’s-his-name…
Calls follow. Voices cough expensively,
Use Latin she doesn’t know. She could be
Life’s biggest fool or on the cusp of ‘next.’
Dotted lines signed. Cold visceral subtext
Is read. Then invitation: come and reign.
And so, with nothing to lose, less to gain,
she blinks…and then…she’s on a train…
She feels the wheels. They churn like stomachache.
Beneath her feet, they thunder, make-or-break
make-or-break, make-or-break, she won’t go back
The same. No matter what ahead may lack,
It’s not a clear shower curtain destroyed—
Or a torn carousel kiss Polaroid .
…at least she’s on a train…

You know, when I saw Visceral pop up in the random choice generator, I had a feeling it would fit very well with your series. Serendipity!
