Summary: Jake Somers knows he's lucky to finally have a future -- and, especially, to have this woman!
He could hear his girlfriend's fiery tirade the moment she breezed through the school doors. He wasn't used to being early, but Jake Somers was actually beginning to realize he had a future for which to plan, a future with the incredible but fiercely angry woman striding toward him. She wasn't angry at him for anything, but that was about all he could pick out of her flurry of Spanish. He thought her father might have told her "no" about something, but he really wasn't certain.
What he was certain of was that he loved this woman, she was amazing, and it was even more amazing that she loved him too. It was for her that he had the future to plan, a future beyond singing rock and roll songs and working on motorbikes, a future that would actually benefit from good grades and a good school presence. He wanted to give her the world, and he couldn't very well do that from an automotive shop. Her Papa was right. He wasn't worthy of her, but he damn sure planned to make himself as worthy as he could.
He waited until Lorena drew close. Then he shut his locker door, closed the remaining distance between them with a few, purposeful steps, cupped her beautiful face in his tender, caring hands, and kissed her. She was still talking, still fussing, when his lips touched hers. God, this woman was fiery, and it was one of so many things he loved about her!
He kissed her slow and deep, but when he finally lifted his mouth from hers, she was still speaking Spanish. There was no longer any anger in her words or eyes, but she had not forgotten whatever it was her Papa had said or done to upset her. Jake kissed her again, his tongue dipping smoothly into her rich silkiness and trysting with hers. He kissed her even longer and deeper this time. He kissed her until their friends had left. He kissed her until the halls had almost emptied. He kissed her even after the tardy bell had rung.
When he finally lifted his head, Lorena seemed a little dazed. Her beautiful, brown eyes were wide with wonder. Her lips were hushed, her diatribe silenced. "We'd better hurry," he said, taking her books from her arms, shutting her door, wrapping his other arm around her, and beginning to guide her toward the Principal's office. They were used to seeing him, but not so much her. They were late, but it was just one more day in what he hoped and trusted would be a million more to come. Lorena DaCosta was his blessing, and he was never letting her go.
When the Administrative Assistant looked up at them, Lorena was still speechless but beaming, glowing brilliantly. "We need slips," Jake said, and for the first time in his life, didn't get looked at as just a hoodlum. The slips came, and he happily guided them on their way.
The End
