Summary: She no longer wants what she's worked for her entire life. She only wants him.

She's always tried so hard to do what is right. She's always focused on her future and fought to make herself the very best person, in all ways, she could possibly be. Her mother is dragged down by a man who can barely keep up with her, with all her beliefs and dedications. She'd just about rule the world if she didn't have her father to tie her down to earth.

It works for them, though. She's never heard her mother say an actual bad word about her father, although she's constantly fussed over all the rest of humanity. Jessie can remember her mom pleading with her when she was little to not be like the rest of humanity, to make something of herself, to make a difference in this world, to right as many wrongs as she possibly could, whereas her dad, on the rare occasion they'd had a delicate time together, had always seemed more focus on her actual happiness.

Of all the things she feels right now, joy seems the absolute furthest from her mind. To actually be able to be happy in her own future seems outlandish, but she's made a promise many times over and spent her entire life working so hard towards the goal, so hard towards where this plane is about to take her. She looks down the jetway, sees her parents beaming happily and waving to her, sees her friends waving at her just as wildly. She thinks she can see tears in Kelly's excited eyes, but the moment she catches her watching her, she waves even harder.

Zack stands beside her, waving with one hand while clapping Slater's muscular shoulder with his other. Jessie's heart seems to lurch into her throat, and for a moment, the whole world comes to a stand-still. She hadn't meant to meet his eyes, but she has and now finds herself unable to look away. Of all the guys she has known, of all the humans who have come and gone from her life, he is the only one who seems to wield an almost unnatural power over her. She wants nothing more, in that moment, than to fling everything away from her, drop all her bags, throw her future away, run back to him, and throw herself around him -- and never, ever let go.

Her fingers grow lax around the handles of her carry-ons. She moves to the side as best she can, forcing the other passengers to go around her. Her tears are beginning to flow now, and she's just about to say to heck with everything at the university, everything bright in her future for which she's been working towards her entire life, when Slater shakes his head.

"GET ON THAT PLANE, MOMMA!" he yells even though she knows, having witnessed that certain glisten in his dark and adorable eyes, that he's been crying, already missing her. "YOU'RE NOT THROWING YOUR LIFE AWAY FOR ANY DUMB JOCK! GET ON THAT PLANE!" He yanks away from Zack and folds his muscular arms, whose feel she knows so very well, over his broad chest. "I'LL BE HERE WAITING, BUT ONLY IF YOU GO GRAB THAT FUTURE YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED!"

Kelly has pulled Lisa to the side, and suddenly the two of them break out cheers. "YOU CAN DO IT, JESSIE!"

She can do it. This is the moment she's been working for her entire life. Yet she no longer wants it. She no longer wants to bend to probity, but to love. But she remembers, too, the conversation she and Slater had on the night before graduation. If she doesn't go through with this, if she doesn't go on and continue the education that will lead to the future she's always wanted, he will leave her. He'll dump her, and he swears he'll not take her back for anything.

Her bottom lip trembles. She can barely hear her friends now. All she can see is him, those bright, shimmering eyes so filled with tears but also aflame with determination. All she can feel is the ghost of the memories of his arms around her and his lips on hers. All she wants is to throw everything else away and run back to him. She doesn't want to be a lawyer any longer; she'll be perfectly satisfied being Missus AC Slater for the rest of her life. Only... Will she? Or will she grow to have a disdain for him greater than her mother's for her father? She has worked for this moment all her life, after all.

"Ma'am, are you boarding? If you're not boarding, I'll need you to get off the jetway."

Besides that, besides any doubt, if she goes back now, he'll leave her. She will have no future at all then. Emotions twist and turn within Jessie for although she should perhaps be angry at him for threatening to leave her, she knows he's doing so out of love, out of respect for her and what they both have believed, until now, was best for her and her future. "I LOVE YOU!" she screams and then she turns, taking all her courage and strength, and walks away from the man she still aches to fill her future to the actual school that can build it. She walks, as if through a haze, to her seat, then she sinks into it, drops her head into her hands, and quietly, passionately sobs as the plane takes off, carrying her toward that future she once believed to be oh so bright.
