“Holmes!” I exclaimed as soon as he crossed the threshold of the cottage in search of his tea.
“What is it, my man? I saw young Jackson’s dog cart, but I was too absorbed in tending the hives to stop and greet him. He didn’t stay long.”
“No, he just delivered this. Oh, your brother has saved the day!”
“Mycroft? That seems unlikely.”
“Your brother has a hidden talent for watercolours, Holmes. I have been in such a sour mood of late. I was beginning to despair, but then this arrived.”
Holmes closed the distance between us and slipped behind me to look at the small frame I held in my hands.
“Mycroft painted this wonderful scene! He sent it to us as a cottage warming gift.”
Holmes snorted. “He sent it to you, I think, my dear Watson. I doubt that my brother sincerely believes that I will appreciate the rendering of a well-fed feline basking in the sun on a window seat,” he bent low and squinted, “much less the titling of this masterpiece.”
“I love it, Holmes. I will give it place of prominence on my side of the sitting room.”
“If you must.”
I sighed. “Apricat!”
