Summary: Midna shares some of her thoughts with Link.
“You wanna know what I think about Zant?” Midna asked Link as the two of them took a brief rest from their travels.
Link turned to look at her, thinking for a second before nodding. The question had been unprompted, but if she was feeling in a talkative mood it certainly wouldn’t hurt to listen.
“I think he’s a pernicious little traitor.” She scoffed, “He says he’s acting for the sake of the Twili, but you’ve seen the state he’s left the Twilight Realm in! He’s only acting for his own selfishness, everything else is just a pretence.”
Midna paused for a second, staring out into the distance, “He’s weak, and a fool—a crafty fool, I’ll give him that, but only a fool would believe the Twilight Realm needs the kind of salvation he’s after.”
Link listened to her in rapt attention, briefly wondering what had brought this up. It wasn’t that Midna didn’t like to talk, in fact, it would have been stranger if she hadn’t said anything while the two of them took a breather, but she usually stayed away from the more personal topics. Although he guessed some recent events might have left her stirred up.
“I should have seen it coming.” She sighed, “It was obvious now that I think about it, we were all wary of him for a reason. But I didn’t think he would really…” Another sigh, this one morphing into a frustrated groan.
“Anyway,” Midna seemed to shake off her previous mood, returning to her usual self, “You have to help me beat him, okay? We’re a team now, no backing out.”
Link smiled and hummed in acknowledgement, glad to have witnessed a moment of genuineness from her, however brief it might have been.
“No time to be lazy,” She urged him on, “Ready to get going?”
He took up his sword once again, and the two resumed their perilous journey to save the world.
