MEET ME AT THE 7TH RENDEZVOUS
Not the alternate
(Come as a book-lover)

Crowley strode into the front door of Tills, the angel's cryptic note stashed in the pocket of the coat he'd picked up at a thrift store an hour ago. He was pleased with his attempt at a disguise, even if the buttoned-up outfit was far from his usual style.

The bell over the door tinkled, and Aziraphale turned at the sound, looking his visitor up and down. "Oh, good lord—I mean, welcome, normal customer!"

Crowley stared back with wide eyes, equally stunned at Aziraphale's appearance. 'WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR?!" he mouthed unhappily.

"What can I do for you today, sir?" The angel asked, his voice several notches above conversation level.

Crowley had already been questioning his life choices when he decided to show up. "What the heav—"

"You look like someone who likes to read," Aziraphale interrupted. "I can help you find the perfect book. I bet you'd like something about, oh, I don't know, ducks. Or elephants. They have big ears, you know."

Crowley blinked as his brain processed the coded message. His lips quirked in an almost imperceptible grin. "The elephants or the ducks?"

"Lovely weather we're having!" The angel blurted.

Crowley looked out the window at the overcast, rainy sky. "Abysmal, actually."

"Perfect weather for curling up inside with a nice cup of cocoa and a good book."

"Is it?"

"I have just the book for you!!" Aziraphale assured, pulling a nondescript tome off a shelf and slipping it into a paper sleeve. He shoved it into Crowley's hands. "That'll be ten pounds, please."

"Excuse me?" he responded incredulously. In a contest of stubbornness, Crowley could never beat Aziraphale. After a few moments of silent staring, he gave up the cash.

"Have a nice day, sir," Aziraphale said, turning away.

"I…" Crowley started feeling confused and hurt, as well as a few other things he didn't want to acknowledge.

"I said, good day!" Aziraphale repeated in a voice that trembled slightly, unequivocally ending their meeting.

With nothing else to do, Crowley turned and walked out the door. On the sidewalk, he peeked at the book.

It was the Book of Life.

He started walking faster.

Alternate ending:

With nothing else to do, Crowley turned and walked out the door. On the sidewalk, he glanced down at the package in his hand. The angel had undoubtedly hidden a message in the book to tell him what was going on and what he needed to do next. And despite everything, he still trusted Aziraphale.

He started walking faster.
