Summary: The Goddesses must have a cruel sense of humor.

This bloodline must certainly be cursed, to be so cruelly played with by Time.

The Shade remembers life, both the sweet and the bitter. But he remembers it twice over. Two separate lifetimes, chained together by one heart and mind.

Once, he was the Hero of Time. He wielded the Master Sword, the sword of legend, to defeat the evil that threatened to choke Hyrule.

But he remembers Time splitting apart. Being sent back to that pivotal moment of his childhood, when he and a young Princess first met. Telling her that her misgivings are all too true. Halting the threatened chokehold before it could begin.

And then...being forgotten.

The Shade knows that he ought to let his regrets fade. His life was still a good one, despite ending in inadvertent anonymity. The pursuit of fame was not the reason why he fought to rescue Hyrule so long ago.

Now, being so long separated from the living, the Shade feels how thick the threads of Time are. Can almost sense how long men of his bloodline have fought to stem the tide of evil. As though destined always to lay everything on the line for the sake of their homeland. Trapped in an endless chain, with no hope of repose. Battle after battle. Blood shed, to soak into the land. Seeking to destroy a finifugal evil that knows nothing of surrender. To either lose or win, only for the cycle to renew itself.

And Hyrule once again has a new hero. A youth who is descended from the Shade. Striding, sword in hand, toward fate.

The Goddesses must have a cruel sense of humor.
