Summary: Monica loomed over her like a storm cloud. That happened to be armed.

"Rachel!"

Squeaking in shock, Rachel cringed at the sound of Monica's cry. "Oh, my God! What're you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?!"

In response, Monica snatched the book she'd begun reading out of her hands. "You just ripped out the foreword to this book!"

"Oh, that." Rachel gestured dismissively. "It's no big deal. Nobody reads those things."

Now, Monica's reply was to whack her soundly with the book. "You moron! Yes, people do read the foreword, and the afterward. Which you've also torn out!" She proceeded to smack Rachel again with the book, harder.

"Oww! Would you stop that?! Okay, I'll buy you a new copy."

"It gets worse than that." Monica loomed over her like a storm cloud. That happened to be armed. With a blunt weapon that Rachel was grateful was only a softcover. "This isn't mine! I borrowed this from the library. And I am not going to pay the fine. You are going with me to the library, and you are explaining to them that I'm not the one responsible for this vandalism. And you are going to buy them a new copy, on top of the fine!"

Suddenly, Rachel was beginning to prefer being whacked with the book. The obloquy that her thoughtlessness had earned was a lot more painful.
