106: Original poetry: Gen
Title: inheritance
Fandom: Original
Length: 209
Rating: Gen
Prompt: cartographer
Inspired by this photo:
Notes: Supernatural elements.
Summary: Part 4 (of 5) Our formerly heartbroken heroine inherits more than a country manor.
to the manor brought by locomotive
a home to call her own, the new heiress
has ignominious start, no vote of
confidence—yet—a village to impress
but day by day, the hearts and minds are won
with honesty, humility, and charm
her life as country miss has just begun
so much to map, discover and disarm
but once our hero’s castle is her home,
and the dew of village life is off the rose,
the cartographer yet has grounds to roam,
to map, and so, into the woods she goes…
about the mossy logs and mushroom caps,
another invitation is conveyed,
and by her boots, a fairie world unwraps,
and at her feet, one more bequest is laid.
a fairie princess? she? beggars belief,
and yet new-found forest friends do insist,
present a likeness in antique relief
and a book, ramblings of some fantasist.
amusing read, but it couldn’t be real,
just lore, just stories told about old fire,
yet, one dark night, her soul says she must steal
back into the woods, thus goes the lady squire.
with open mind and open heart, she flies
to welcoming swell of faerie ground,
to bow and ask for pardon, then to rise
and be presented with her faerie crown.
